Traffic Section

Traffic Vehicle The West Vancouver Police Department's Traffic Section strives to make the roadways of West Vancouver safer for motorist, cyclists and pedestrians.  The Section focuses on educating the public through traffic enforcement, media and ongoing projects targeting problem areas and driver behaviour.

 

The Traffic Section has a number of enforcement vehicles, including motorcycles, covert vehicles, marked vehicles and a collision analysis/commercial inspection vehicle. The Section also utilizes the regional enforcement helicopter (Air 1) to assist in targeting and apprehending aggressive drivers.

  

Members of the Traffic Section assist in criminal investigations by utilizing the latest forensic crime scene mapping technology to recreate detailed and accurate crime scene diagrams.  The Traffic Section works closely with other agencies, including ICBC, Commercial Vehicle Inspectors, CN Rail, West Vancouver Bylaw Enforcement, West Vancouver Engineering Department and other police agecies.

 

In addition to general investigative skills, the members attached to the Traffic Section have a variety of expertise in areas such as; 

  • Surveying and Crime Scene Mapping
  • Commercial Truck Inspections
  • Commercial Taxi Inspections

 

The Section also operates specialized Traffic Enforcement Initiatives and programs focusing on:

  • Sea to Sky Highway corridor
  • Lions Gate Bridge
  • Cypress Bowl Road
  • Motorcycles (equipment and aggressive driving)
  • Street racing
  • Pedestrian safety

 

All members of the West Vancouver Police Department receive ongoing operational traffic enforcement trainining, including:

  • In-house Traffic Enforcement training and updates
  • Box and Pin training
  • Motorcycle training
  • Approved Screening Device (ASD) training
  • BAC Datamaster C recertification
  • Vehicle Speed Reading Device training
  • Spike Belt training
  • Pursuit and Emergency Vehicle Operation training
