Forensic Identification Section

The Forensic Identification Section (FIS) is responsible for the examination of crime scenes. Forensic Identification specialists are trained in the recognition, collection and analysis of physical evidence.

FIS members process crime scenes for all possible physical evidence including fingerprints, footwear impressions, biological material, toolmarks, hair and fibre, bloodstain patterns and DNA.

FIS also attends autopsies of unnatural deaths and processes the victims for physical evidence as well as identification of unknown deceased through fingerprint analysis.

In addition, FIS performs forensic video analysis, serial number restorations and physical matches. FIS members provide expert evidence in court in relation to the comparison and identification of fingerprints and physical evidence.

The Forensic Identification Section is staffed by a Corporal and two Constables.
