The functions and responsibilites of the West Vancouver Police Department Information Servieces Unit, include:
- managing the police reports completed by police officers
- quality control and maintenance of the Departments records management system
- preparing investigative reports where charges are being recommended for submission to Crown Counsel.
- managing requests for information from the public as well as other law enforcement agencies and organizations
- processing requests for information made under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act
- processing Criminal Record Check requests for West Vancouver citizens
Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act – FOIPPA
The Supervisor of the Information Services Unit manages requests under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. As a public body the West Vancouver Police Department is responsible to respond to requests by members of the public for access to information held by the West Vancouver Police Department.
The FOIPPA provides two basic rights for members of the public:
- The right to access information in the public body records.
- The right to have personal information protected from unauthorized collection, use and disclosure.
The West Vancouver Police Department will accept requests to access records under the FOIPPA in writing ONLY. FOIPPA requests will not be accepted by E-Mail or through the website.
You can access the form through the website link below or attend the front counter of the West Vancouver Police Department to receive a copy form that you can use if you wish. If you would like to make a request for records, please write to the following address:

In order to conduct an accurate search for the records requested, please be as specific as possible in your request, including case numbers, dates, times, and addresses involved.
Personal Information
If you request personal records about yourself, we will need to verify your identity to ensure we are giving access to the right person. You will be asked to produce Government Issue photo identification such as a driver's licence or passport.
What Information Will NOT Be Provided
- If the record you request contains personal information about someone else, and it would be an unreasonable invasion of that person's personal privacy to provide that person's personal information, we must delete that information from the record.
- If the records you request contain sensitive law enforcement information that would harm a law enforcement matter if released, we do not have to provide that part of the requested records.
- The Act contains other exemptions that may have to be considered depending on the nature of the request.
