| Grad Celebration Turns to Tragedy |
The West Vancouver Police Department is actively investigating a weekend West Vancouver school Grad celebration that turned tragic leaving one youth fighting for his life in the Lions Gate Hospital.
On Saturday June 7th at about 1530hrs, the West Vancouver Police Department were called to the Park Royal South parking lot as a result of a male being injured in a car accident. The investigation found that five Grade 12 students, on the brink of graduation from West Vancouver Secondary School, had been celebrating and driving in the mall parking lot. Apparently, one of the passengers in the car was not in his seat while the vehicle was moving and had positioned himself outside of the rear window. It appears, at this time, that his head struck a post as the vehicle drove past.
The injuries are grave. The student has been in a coma since the accident.
The members of the West Vancouver Police Department recognise that graduation should be a time for students to happily reflect on their achievements as they enter adulthood, unfortunately however, students must be reminded of the need to exercise caution during and while planning their celebrations. The police department encourages, friends, family and other grad celebrants to work together to stop these senseless tragedies.
The West Vancouver Police Department is asking that any person with information related to this incident to contact them at 604 925 7300 and quote file # 08-6401. In addition any person who may have witnessed five young men driving in and around Park Royal in a black 2005, Mercedes ML320 SUV to contact them if they have any information that may be of any value to the investigation. |
