Bus driver sustains minor injuries after being assaulted

A 47-year-old male suspect remains in custody after he allegedly assaulted a West Vancouver Transit Driver, after being denied permission to board a bus early Monday evening.

The incident occurred shortly after 4:00 p.m. in the 900-block of Marine Drive when the suspect attempted to board the bus without offering payment. The suspect allegedly became upset when he was denied access, resulting in the alleged assault. The suspect apparently disembarked the bus when other passengers stepped forward to assist.

West Vancouver Police officers quickly attended the scene and arrested the suspect without incident. The suspect, a resident of Vancouver, remains in custody and made his first court appearance Tuesday morning. The Transit driver sustained some injuries to his face and was transported to a hospital by paramedics for observation.

West Vancouver police are still actively investigating this incident and encourage anyone who may have witnessed it to contact the WVPD’s non-emergency line at (604)-925-7300.
