West Vancouver Police and VPD investigators have now confirmed a body discovered on Cypress Mountain late Tuesday afternoon was that of 35 year old Vahid MAHANIAN of West Vancouver. 

MAHANIAN's body was found by trail maintenance volunteers a short distance off Cypress Mountain Road approximately 1 kilometer northeast of the High View lookout.

MAHANIAN was reported missing to Police June 30, 2011 and was last known to be in contact with family or friends June 27, 2011.(NV RCMP File#2011-18037)

An autopsy was conducted by the BC Coroner's Service this morning.  The cause of death remains under investigation.  In light of the autopsy result, investigators are continuing to treat this matter as suspicious.

Investigators are asking any member of the public who may have noticed suspicious activity near the recovery site, or who has information regarding MAHANIAN's whereabouts since June 27, 2011 to contact West Vancouver Police.

West Vancouver Police have a Detective seconded to VPD Homicide as part of a working agreement under which suspicious deaths in West Vancouver are jointly investigated by VPD and WVPD.
