Improvised Explosive Device (Pipe Bomb)
On 2010 July 27th at approximately 09:51 hrs, an alert West Vancouver District Employee located a suspicious item in the 2200 block of Argyle Ave which he described as a jar containing liquid, wrapped in tape and a wick sticking out of it.
The municipal employee alerted the West Vancouver Police Department. A WVPD member quickly attended contained and secured the device.
The WVPD requested the assistance of the RCMP’S bomb disposal unit. Upon attendance the bomb team collected the device and transported it to a secure location where it was detonated.
The device located is described as a cylindrical shaped object, wrapped in tensor bandage type material, with screws affixed to it. It was further wrapped in a grey tape and attached to it was a pyrotechnic fuse.
This matter remains under active investigation by the West Vancouver Police Department with the assistance of the RCMP.
The WVPD caution anyone seeing such a device or any other item that looks suspicious to stay away and call police immediately.
