| WVPD Officers Among Top Lower Mainland Impaired Driving Investigators |
West Vancouver Police officers have again earned a place among the top Impaired Driving Investigators in British Columbia.
In May of 2008, four year old Alexa Middelaer was killed by an impaired driver. In her memory, the Middelaer Family, The BCAA Traffic Safety Foundation and Munipal Police and RCMP detachments annually honour the top impaired driving investigators.
Officers making ten or more impaired driving arrests resulting in charges in a year are named to 'Alexa's Team'.
For the second year in a row three West Vancouver Police officers have earned a spot on Alexa's Team, with one officer placing among the top five of officers honoured at a luncheon in Surrey.
Cst. Jamie Bartlett made a total of 29 Impaired Driving arrests in 2009, and arrested three other drivers for Refusal to Provide a Breath Sample.
Cst. David Noon and Cst. Eric Melim have earned a place on Alexa's Team for the second year in a row with 14 and 11 Impaired Driving arrests respectively.
Overall, West Vancouver Police officers made 260 impaired driving arrests in 2009 and issued 348 24 hour roadside prohibitions.
