West Vancouver Police are investigating the apparent theft of a rental boat from Horseshoe Bay.

Police were called Tuesday evening after a boat rented by a lone man failed to return as scheduled.

The boat was rented shortly after 4pm yesterday afternoon, and was due back at 7:30pm. The Coast Guard and Vancouver Police Marine Squad have been advised.

Subsequent investigation has determined the boat was rented using a stolen credit card and driver’s licence.

The missing boat is a white 17 foot Hourston Glascraft runabout with a black 75 horsepower Mercury brand outboard motor. The boat has red coloured “Sewell’s Marina” signs on each side and is marked with a large number 5. The boat is valued at $30,000.

Investigators are reviewing security video and following up on several leads relating to earlier attempts to use the stolen cards and ID. The suspect is described as a 30 to 35 year old Caucasian male, approximately 180 cm tall with a medium build. He is described as having a dark complexion with short dark hair and facial stubble.

Anyone who sees the boat or has any information on whereabouts of the boat or suspect is asked to contact West Vancouver Police at 604-925-7300. (Sample Photos Attached)Body goes here.
