| Semi-Trailer Leaves Cyclist in Hospital |
The West Vancouver Police Department is looking for witnesses to a collision between a semi-trailer and a cyclist that left the cyclist seriously injured on Highway #99.
On Thursday August 7th 2008, at 1530hrs on Highway#99 at approximately 1.5 kilometres North of Horseshoe Bay, a 28 year- old West Vancouver cyclist was involved in a collision with a semi-trailer that resulted in a badly broken pelvis. The Cyclist was traveling southbound when the rear of the semi-trailer struck the Cyclist as the semi attempted to pass. The Cyclist was transported to Lions Gate Hospital suffering from serious lacerations to his face, head and legs, as well as the broken pelvis.
Despite emergency surgery the Cyclist remains in the hospital.

Cyclists are reminded that the construction currently underway on Highway #99 poses a serious safety concern. If possible, alternative methods of transport are advised along the Sea-to-Sky corridor. Motorists are asked to ensure that they give extra space to cyclists.
