West Vancouver Police had a relatively quiet night Wednesday with a crowd of 2500 spectators viewing the HSBC Celebration of Lights; approximately 1800 of this group were youth.
In prepration for the finale Saturday night, the West Vancouver Police will have additional resources on hand and will continue with zero tolerance of alcohol, drugs and distruptive behaviour.
Wednesday night, several youth were arrested for being drunk in a public place and released to their parents, two youth were arrested for fighting and numerous youth were given violation tickets for minor in possession of alcohol. Two drivers were issued suspension notices, one driver was given a twenty-four hour driving prohibition and a second driver was processed for impaired driving.
The West Vancouver Police continued the Boating Safety initiative with the Vancouver Police and checked 18 vessels at docks in West Vancouver and 17 vessels on the water.
Four transit busses suffered minor damage to windows caused by spectators leaving after the fireworks. In response to this damage, the Greater Vancouver Transit Authority will have extra police monitoring the busses during Saturday night’s fireworks.
