Police Service Dog “Kai” tracks two thieves
On December 17, 2011, at 7:38 p.m., an off-duty Vancouver Police Officer called the West Vancouver Police Department to report a theft in progress from a business situated in the 900-block of Marine Drive.
The off-duty officer reported observing two males grabbing a large quantity of clothes and fleeing the store. They were last seen heading east across Taylor Way.
Police Service Dog (PSD) “Kai” and his handler quickly attended. PSD “Kai” was deployed and tracked to a nearby parking lot on Fullerton Ave locating the two males. Both were detained and transported to the WVPD.
WV Police also located a vehicle which police believe belongs to one of the individuals. A search of the vehicle turned up additional property, which is believed to have been stolen, as well as suspected marihuana and a prohibited weapon.
Arrested in relation to this offence are a 24-year-old male from Cawston and a 23-year-old male from Coquitlam. Both males were subsequently released on a Promise to Appear, with conditions, and are required to appear in court on February 29, 2012.
