Sentinel School Threat

 

The West Vancouver Police Department (WVPD) continues to investigate a threat that resulted in the second evacuation of students from Sentinel Secondary School in the past five days.

  

Shortly before 1:00 p.m. today Sentinel Secondary School officials received a threat by phone that quickly resulted in their making the decision to contact the police and evacuate their students and staff from the facility.

 

West Vancouver police officers quickly attended the scene to investigate the threat and search the facility with the assistance of police service dogs from the RCMP and Vancouver Police Department. At approximately 2:20 p.m. police and school officials deemed the threat appeared to be unfounded and the decision was made to allow students to return to the building.

 

West Vancouver police continue to actively investigate this incident along with the previous incident that occurred at this same school on November 25, 2011.

School operations have been returned to normal after a Threat investigation resulted in evacuation of Sentinel Secondary School in West Vancouver this morning.

 

Shortly after 10:00am a threat message was received at the school located in the 1200 block of Chartwell Dr. All staff and students were quickly evacuated. Police secured the area and an investigation was undertaken.

 

Specific content of the threat is being withheld pending further investigation.

 

Investigators subsequently concluded the threat was unfounded. Students were returned to classes shortly after 12:30pm.

 

An active investigation is ongoing to identify the source of the threat.
