Hot on the trail - PSD "Mike" locates two suspects without incident

On November 1, at 9:30 a.m., a WV Police dog handler was approached by a business owner in the 100-block of Taylor Way. The business owner advised that two males had entered his store and taken a bottle of alcohol without offering payment.

The dog handler retrieved Police Service Dog (PSD) “Mike” from his police car and made his way to a trail situated east of the victim’s business. The dog handler was advised by witnesses that they had seen the suspects running on a trail and one of them had dropped his baseball cap. The WV Police member and PSD “Mike” hot on the trail recovered the baseball cap and shortly thereafter located two males.

The Police Constable approached the males and announced his presence as a police officer, one of the males complied with the officer’s requests and sat still, while the other attempted to make a run for it. The officer announced that he would send Police Service Dog “Mike” to initiate capture, the second male, now wiser after the police officer’s commands, complied with the request to stay still.

Arrested in relation to this offence is a 28-year-old male from North Vancouver, he was released on a Promise To Appear, and is required to appear in court on Dec 14, 2011. The second male was released without being charged.
