WVPD recover two stolen vehicles and arrest two suspects

On October 19, 2011, at 05:44 a.m., the WV Police responded to a complaint of a vehicle being stolen from the 2100-block of Kings Avenue .

The complainant advised WV Police that she had observed a car alarm going off on her street. She looked out her window and noticed a male walking on the street in front of her residence with a flashlight; she believed the male was investigating the source of the car alarm. A few minutes later, and to her disbelief, she noticed her own vehicle, a 2009 Toyota Highlander, being backed out of her driveway with the lights on. As a result of her observations, she immediately called the WV Police.

Police strategically responded and noticed the vehicle travelling eastbound in the 1300-block of Marine Drive. The vehicle travelled onto the Lions Gate Bridge and into Stanley Park where it was abandoned at Prospect Point.

A Vancouver Police member responded and, with the help of his Police Service Dog, located both males a short distance away. Arrested and taken into custody were two 24-year-old males; one from Surrey and the other from Vancouver. Both males have extensive criminal records. They were held by police and later transported to North Vancouver Provincial Court to deal with the proposed charges.

A search incidental to the arrest of the two suspects revealed several pieces of property which police believe to be stolen, including electronics, GPS equipment, sunglasses, knives and flash drives.

WV Police will be recommending the following charges in relation to this incident:

1. Break and Enter
2. Possession of Stolen Property
3. Theft over $5000
4. Breach of an Undertaking

Investigation into the vehicle that was left abandoned in the 2100-block of Kings Avenue, the source of the car alarm, led to the recovery of a 1999 GMC pickup truck which had been stolen sometime overnight from the 800-block of Taylor Wood Place.

If you, or anyone you know, had their vehicle(s) broken into overnight or are a victim of theft, please contact the West Vancouver Police at 604-925-7300, quoting file number 11-13307, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
