West Vancouver Police arrest fraudulent canvasser
On August 24, 2011 at 08:00 p.m. the West Vancouver Police were alerted to a suspicious person canvassing in the 4700 block of Woodgreen Dr. The male was soliciting funds for a reputable recognized charity.
The homeowner grew suspicious and contacted the police, who attended and located the male a short distance away. Although the male provided a false identity, Police were still able to ascertain his true name. A check with the Canadian Police Information Centre revealed the male had two outstanding warrants (Assault and Breaching his bail conditions) for his arrest originating from Burnaby, B.C. A subsequent search of his person also revealed a small quantity of what police believe is marihuana. The male was arrested and transported to the Burnaby RCMP to deal with his warrants. WV Police will be recommending charges of Fraud and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Charged in relation to this offence is 42 year old Christopher BOULOUKOS from Burnaby, BC. The WV Police want to remind area residents to ask canvassers to produce a letter authorizing them to canvass in West Vancouver, this letter should be issued by the Municipal By Law Section and will indicate the date range and times canvassers are allowed to work in West Vancouver, alternatively they can also produce a business licence also issued to them by the West Vancouver Bylaw Section.
