The search for the diver who went missing in the waters off Whytecliff Park has resumed today with the assistance of the Canadian Coast Guard, Vancouver Police Department Marine Squad, and some diving colleagues of the missing male.
The missing diver was last seen by his diving partner shortly before 5:00 p.m. late yesterday afternoon, before they became separated from one another during their dive. An extensive search of the area last night by the Canadian Coast Guard and Vancouver Police Marine Squad failed to find any trace of the missing diver.

On January 14, 2012 at approximately 17:30 hrs the West Vancouver Police Department were advised by the Canada Coast Guard Search and Rescue centre in Victoria that they had received a report of a missing diver at Whytecliff Park, West Vancouver. The West Vancouver Police attend the scene along with Emergency Health Services.
Two experienced divers went for a dive in the waters off Whytecliff Park this afternoon.
At approximately 16:45hrs one of the divers surfaced from the dive and waited for the second diver to surface. The second diver failed to surface and the first diver then made his way to the shore. The first diver then contacted the Canada Coast Guard.
At approximately 17:40 hrs Canada Coast Guard vessels, along with the Vancouver Police Marine squad commenced a search of the area for the missing diver.
As of 21:20 hrs the missing diver has not been located and the search of the area has been concluded.
The missing diver has been identified as a male in his sixties who resides in the Lower Mainland. The male’s family has been notified. |
